The first group of immigrant detainees has been transported to Florida’s newly designated detention center, colloquially referred to as “Alligator Alcatraz,” according to a spokesperson for State Attorney General James Uthmeier and Governor Ron DeSantis. The detainees arrived at the facility by bus, officials confirmed.
The move is part of the state’s ongoing efforts to manage and process individuals apprehended for immigration-related offenses. In a recent statement posted on the social media platform X, the Florida Attorney General’s office announced:
“Alligator Alcatraz will be checking in hundreds of criminal illegal aliens tonight…. Next stop: back to where they came from.”
Governor DeSantis and Attorney General Uthmeier have emphasized that this initiative aims to enhance public safety and enforce immigration laws more rigorously. The facility, nicknamed for its remote and secure location, is expected to house hundreds of detainees as the state continues its immigration enforcement strategy.
Officials have not yet disclosed further details about the conditions at the facility or the timeline for processing the detainees.
